Later that evening we listen to Nymphes – a flute ensemble, from Belarus – at Chambre de commerce, a small concert hall with excellent acoustics.

My expectations are small – these are young musicians still at school – but the performance exceeds them by a large margin.  The combination of five flutes – in perfect harmony – and a piano is strangely alluring, unlike anything I’ve heard before.  A few pieces are familiar (I recognize strains of Debussy, Mozart, Bach), but most are new to me, which adds to the charm. Then there is the name factor, with these beautiful girls calling themselves nymphs
